Methylene chloride (MC), with the chemical formula CH₂Cl₂, is a clear, colorless liquid that is volatile and has an ether-like odor. MC is insoluble in water but highly soluble in organic solvents.

Currently, methylene chloride is widely used as an organic solvent in industrial processes serving various sectors such as pharmaceutical production, paint stripping, metal cleaning and degreasing, film base manufacturing, polycarbonate resin production, and solvent formulation.
